Tuesday is the new Wednesday

Christopher is very tired.

We took the bus to the Wadi Degla protectorate park on Sunday to go and study the rock formations there.  Most of the rock is limestone, which is whitish and has holes in it.  When you kick it or blow on it, it seems like sand comes off of it.  The kids all thought it was sandstone because of all the sand, but it is rougher to the touch than sandstone.

We ate lunch and then went on a scavenger hunt.  The kids had to find and describe 3 different types of rocks, make observations about the soil, and find things that did not belong in the park.

We found lots of stuff that should not have been there.  Some people had not been following the rules of the park.  They were littering!  There were plastic bottles and glass pieces and chips bags.  We talked about the consequences of littering and what we can do to help protect the environment.

I’ll put up some pictures next week because Mommy forgot her camera.  I’ll have to get some from K.

Also we’ll have Sports Day (field day) on Friday.  Mommy’s not happy to have to get up early on her day off, but we’ll be in charge of the obstacle course.  Everyone should help cheer for the blue team, because I don’t think Mommy’s going to be awake enough to cheer.

See you next time.

Christopher Returns!

I (and Mommy, too) have not been posting here as often as I (we) should have.  But all that is going to change.  Mommy and I are back online.

Since you last heard from us, we have moved two times.  Our new apartment is in 5th Settlement in New Cairo, nearer to the school.  This means Mommy gets to sleep in later.

As far as school goes, it is very tiring.  This week is the week of field trips.  We visited a bird farm and fed some geese.  Mommy’s camera ran out of charge after only 3 pictures.  The kids all said it was boring.  Sunday we will go to Wadi Degla.  Mommy planned this trip herself and she hopes the kids will like it better.  Here is some more information about the park:  http://www.egyptheritage.com/pub_brochure.html

We are going to try and make a regular update schedule out of Saturdays and Tuesdays.  Tuesday in Egypt is the middle of the week, because we start on Sundays instead of Mondays!  This is because Friday is the holy day here, so we never ever have school.

See you on Tuesday!

Christopher is back from a visit to New Cairo

This is our School! Awesome, right? We had a lot of fun scouting around and trying to pick out the best classroom. School starts on the 27th, so we'll be moving over here very soon. We got to meet the teachers from Egypt and we had our first official teacher's meeting! Most importantly, we met A, who will be teaching with Mommy in our classroom. She has really good ideas. Second grade will be the best classroom. All the other kids will want to come and visit us.

Evenings in Agamy

Christopher is experiencing the calm before the storm.

Wow! Our internet was out all yesterday and today. It was so funny because nobody knew what to do. Eventually we did the same thing we do everyday. Go to the beach! I don’t really like the beach. I get sand all inside. Luckily, Mommy doesn’t like the beach a whole lot either.

Here are some pictures of the place where we live. My room is a mess. We share with R. She doesn’t mind. Yay!

This is the balcony where we hang our clothes to dry… Hmmm. We should maybe do a dark load soon…

This is Mommy’s computer, where she does work. (She plays on it a lot, too.) Those are lessons behind me, though.

This is the dining table where we eat our meals.

And these are some new friends I made hanging around the pool. They’re some pretty cool dudes.

Anyway, I wanted to update and tell you about all the new people I’ve met here. Here is a picture of me with A. She’s giving me a blessing. She’s cool like that.

Here I am with S. I like her a lot.

That’s all for this update. See you later ‘Gators!

P.S. We got our other bag in! Yay!

We Made It!!

Christopher is officially in Egypt!
After we spent the night in New York, we spent a long day again at JFK. We had to leave the hotel before noon, but we couldn't check in for the flight until after 2. Then they had problems with our tickets. THEN when we were finally in Egypt after a very very very long (but nice
) flight, JFK hadn't sent our bags. Mommy has no shampoo. :( And most of her clothes are still there, too. Meanies.
But so then we got to ride to the school with L and M. They are really fun. The school is so big! I can't wait to see my room, but the building isn't done yet. Then Mommy and I got in a car and drove all the way to Agamy, which is in Alexandria.

There we met up with A and R and S. A and R are also teachers at the school. We have nice talks about what we want to do in the classrooms. Mommy lets me listen, since I will be going to school, too. Today we went to the beach. It was very nice. Mommy and R went on a walk. A went swimming
.
I hid from the sun. Plastic melts! The beach is great, though.

More teachers arrive tomorrow. It will be great. We will talk about curriculums and stuff.

Stuck at JFK

Christopher does not like waiting.

Mommy and I had to wait to get on the plane in Richmond because the weather was bad in NY.  Then traffic was crowded around DC, so we still couldn’t leave.  We finally got on the plane and off to JFK for the connect to Egypt, but we were too late!  The plane left without us.  So we had to stay the night at an inn.  I’m all ready to go, especially since Mommy repacked her bookbag and I’m not squished anymore, but Mommy’s all nervous again.  Wish us luck!  I’ll post pictures from our airport adventures later.

goodbyes and stoneware

Today is our last day in the States. Our plane leaves tomorrow at 2pm. We won't get to Cairo until noon on Monday. It will be a long time in the airport. We sold some pottery at the outlet mall to keep Mommy from being too worried. If we had sold any, it might have worked. We met some nice people, though. That was fun.

All this week we have been packing and cleaning and visiting people to say goodbye. If we didn't see you, Mommy is really sorry.
We got an international phone yesterday, so we'll try to call often. Also Skype. We like Skype. You should get on if you aren't already.

We are having steaks for dinner. Steaks are yummy. We are having a party. Tomorrow we will be sad that we are leaving, but tonight we are happy to be together.
